Frank Whittle: A Genius In The Family has received international recognition and was nominated for ‘Best Documentary Feature’ at the Love & Hope International Film Festival 2025 in Barcelona.

The documentary was also officially selected and screened at The DaVinci International Film Festival 2025 in Los Angeles, California.

This new feature documentary tells a David-versus-Goliath story of a man who tried to build a war winning jet fighter in the face of huge opposition from the scientific community, the government and big business.

In 1937 Frank Whittle ran the World’s first turbojet leading to a revolution in flight and the way we travel - all of today’s jet engines can trace their origins to his work.

His son, Ian Whittle, reveals his father to be a mathematical genius. But Ian also tells the story of a man who was obsessed, a workaholic and whose health and family life suffered profoundly because of his pioneering work.

Why now? The spirit of Whittle must be harnessed if the aviation industry is to become carbon-neutral by 2050, that’s according to Professor Robert Miller, the Director of Cambridge University’s Whittle Laboratory. Current and future engineers need Whittle’s passion, his drive and his willingness to take risks as the aviation industry - which employs 90 million people globally - faces its biggest ever challenge.
